Mechanical Engineering Manager (Central), DC Design Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the Central Regions mechanical design group and drive innovation in data center design. The role involves managing a team of engineers and collaborating with global & regional stakeholders to deliver high‑performance, code‑compliant mechanical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design group and coordinate with internal and external teams that support data center projects.
- Drive improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization.
- Coordinate with third‑party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure compliance with design standards, local code requirements, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Provide high‑quality mechanical engineering advice on a wide variety of global projects and work with other engineering teams to achieve design alignment.
- Collaborate with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to respond to requests for information and value‑engineering queries.
- Oversee construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water‑supply evaluation, testing, inspections, and submittal review; meet with AHJs as needed to obtain approvals.
- Manage project‑related work related to cooling, heating, and plumbing systems for AWS data centers; coordinate mechanical system space requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations.
- Travel up to 25% of the time.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of managing a team of engineers; cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or construction industry related to all aspects of mechanical systems.
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer (required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying local codes, NFPA standards, ICC requirements, and other mechanical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of ICC Codes and mechanical industry standards.
- Direct experience with construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, oil & gas, or large‑scale mechanical and power systems.
- Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades.
- Experience with design review, specification development, design standards, and submittal review processes.
- Knowledge of performance‑based alternatives to prescriptive mechanical design and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience authoring white papers, technical documentation, training materials, code modification requests (CMRs), and alternate materials & methods (AMM) proposals.
- Strong business analytics skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range (USD): 150,200 – 203,300 per year.
