Position Summary
Mechanical Engineer – Junior Research & Engineering – Institute Itech. Full‑time, on‑site in Milan, Italy. Travel and meeting expenses reimbursed upon approval. NDA required.
About the Role Institute Itech seeks a precise and passionate Junior Mechanical Engineer to join the research and engineering team in Milan. The candidate will contribute across flagship projects, applying mechanical design and CAD expertise to innovative systems spanning environmental technology, urban infrastructure, and advanced engineering platforms.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine 2D and 3D mechanical designs using CAD software.
Produce detailed technical drawings, assembly models, and component specifications.
Iterate on designs based on engineering requirements, manufacturing constraints, and project feedback.
Maintain organized, version‑controlled design documentation.
Support physical prototyping of mechanical components and assemblies.
Assist in setting up and executing mechanical testing and validation procedures.
Document test results and contribute to technical reports and design reviews.
Collaborate with engineering and research teams across projects such as Balloon™, Oxyleaf™, Terra™, and Biocity™.
Provide mechanical design input during concept and development phases of concurrent projects.
Identify and communicate design risks, proposing practical solutions in collaboration with senior engineers.
Support manufacturing process identification and evaluation of suppliers.
Coordinate with external fabricators or workshops for prototype production.
Verify manufactured parts against design specifications and quality standards.
Maintain accurate technical documentation for all mechanical design activities.
Contribute to internal reports, design packages, and project deliverables.
Support IP and patent documentation processes related to mechanical innovations.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
0–3 years of experience in a mechanical engineering or design role (academic and thesis experience considered).
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and technical drawing standards.
Ability to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously in a structured and organized manner.
Fluent Italian (mandatory).
Fluent English (mandatory).
Attention to detail and a hands‑on, problem‑solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Thesis or project experience in mechanical design, prototyping, or applied engineering.
Familiarity with FEA or structural simulation tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC, 3D printing, sheet metal, composites).
Experience or interest in environmental, aeronautical, or urban technology applications.
Basic knowledge of GD&T.
Familiarity with PDM or PLM systems for design data management.
