The role is transversal in nature: the candidate will contribute across multiple flagship projects, bringing materials science expertise to bear on real-world challenges spanning environmental technology, urban infrastructure, and advanced engineering systems.The selected candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, engineers, and project managers, supporting the selection, testing, characterization, and development of sustainable and bio-based materials across Institute Itech's project portfolio.This is an ideal opportunity for a recently graduated or early-career materials engineer eager to apply their academic foundation in an applied R&D environment with tangible environmental and technological impact.Responsibilities:Materials Research & DevelopmentResearch, evaluate, and propose sustainable and bio-based materials suitable for use across Institute Itech's projectsConduct literature reviews, material benchmarking, and feasibility assessmentsSupport the development and optimization of material solutions from concept through to prototypeTesting, Characterization & ValidationPerform or coordinate mechanical, physical, and chemical characterization of materialsDocument testing procedures, results, and technical reports in line with Institute Itech's standardsContribute to the validation of materials in real-world application contextsCross-Project Technical SupportCollaborate with engineering and research teams across projects including Oxyleaf™, Terra™, Balloon™, and Biocity™Provide materials expertise during design and prototyping phases of multiple concurrent projectsIdentify material-related risks and propose mitigation strategies in collaboration with project leadsSustainability & InnovationSupport the integration of circular economy principles and sustainable sourcing criteria into material selection processesMonitor developments in bio-based materials, green chemistry, and sustainable engineeringContribute to Institute Itech's innovation pipeline with proposals for new material applicationsDocumentation & ReportingMaintain accurate and organized technical documentation for all materials-related activitiesProduce clear internal reports and contribute to scientific or technical deliverables as requiredSupport patent or IP documentation processes related to materials innovationsRequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related disciplineUp to 2–3 years of experience in a materials engineering role or relevant research environment (academic experience considered)Solid foundational knowledge of sustainable, bio-based, or eco-compatible materialsFamiliarity with standard materials characterization and testing methodologiesAbility to work across multiple projects simultaneously in a structured and organized mannerFluent Italian (mandatory)Fluent English (mandatory)Strong analytical mindset and attention to detailPreferred QualificationsThesis or research experience in sustainable materials, biomaterials, or green engineeringKnowledge of lifecycle assessment (LCA) methodologies or circular economy frameworksFamiliarity with environmental or urban application contexts (air quality, soil remediation, structural materials)Experience with CAD tools or material simulation softwareInterest in environmental innovation, urban sustainability, or applied R&DKnowledge of relevant EU regulations on sustainable materials or chemical safety (REACH, etc.)Benefits ProvidedEntry-level role with immediate exposure to real-world, high-impact R&D projectsMentorship and direct collaboration with senior engineers and researchersTransversal experience across multiple flagship projects and technological domainsGrowth path toward Senior Materials Engineer or Lead Materials ScientistWork environment at the intersection of sustainability, engineering, and technological innovationReimbursement of approved travel and project-related expensesCompensationAnnual Gross Salary: €40,000, in line with junior engineering profiles.Additional performance-based incentives may be provided based on project contribution and milestones achieved.How to Apply:Important: applications including a description of relevant academic or professional materials experience — including thesis work — will be given stronger consideration during the selection process.Please send:CVCover Letter (mandatory) including: Your background in materials engineering and specific areas of expertiseAny experience or interest in sustainable, bio-based, or eco-compatible materialsYour motivation for joining Institute Itech and contributing to its project portfolioE-mail: [email protected]: WE2026 Job Application [IT009500] – Materials Engineer – [Name Surname]
