Job Purpose

We are seeking a Material Designer for Prada Linea Rossa, based in Milan. This role drives innovation across footwear, accessories and ready-to-wear collections through the research and development of cutting-edge materials. Acting as a connector between creative and technical teams, the Material Designer ensures that all materials meet the brand\'s standards for aesthetics, quality, sustainability and technical requirements. The position involves trend scouting, exploring new technologies in fashion materials, identifying new suppliers, and presenting the most suitable solutions to internal stakeholders throughout the design and development process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative materials that enhance product performance, aesthetics and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with Design, Product Development, and Production teams to align material solutions with brand strategy.
  • Source and test new materials with global suppliers, ensuring compliance with quality and technical standards.
  • Monitor industry trends and technologies to apply cutting-edge material innovations to future collections.
  • Build and maintain material libraries with swatches, textures, and treatments for design reference.
  • Ensure materials meet functional, aesthetic, and sustainability goals, actively contributing to prototype reviews.
  • Focus on sustainability, exploring and developing eco-friendly materials and solutions aligned to company goals.

Knowledge And Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Industrial Product Design, Materials/Textile Design or related disciplines.
  • 3/5 years of experience in material development within the Fashion & Luxury Industry (experience in sportswear/performance fashion is a plus).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fabrics, fibers, surface treatments and material technologies.
  • Strong aesthetic sensibility combined with technical and performance expertise.
  • Commitment to sustainability and familiarity with eco-friendly material solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to scout, evaluate and manage international suppliers.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively present proposals and support strategic decision-making.
  • Innovative and proactive mindset with a focus on future trends and technologies.
  • Fluency in Italian and English is required.
