RINA is currently recruiting for a Marine Noise & Vibration Engineer to join its office in Genova within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.
Mission
The Marine Noise & Vibration Engineer is responsible for evaluating and assessing noise and vibration levels on board maritime vessels. They play a critical role in ensuring that vessels comply with industry standards and regulations, enhancing and the well-being of passengers and crew members.
Key Accountabilities
- Noise and Vibration Assessment:
- Conduct noise and vibration measurements and assessments on board maritime vessels during sea trials and inspections.
- Collect and analyze noise and vibration data from various areas of the vessel, including engine rooms, living quarters, and common spaces.
- Interpret data to identify noise and vibration sources, potential issues, and areas for improvement.
- Compliance Verification:
- Ensure that vessels meet relevant noise and vibration standards and regulations, such as those established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), RINA and other industry bodies.
- Review and Analyze International Regulations:
- Stay updated with international regulations, codes, and guidelines related to marine structural integrity, including those issued by the IMO, IACS (International Association of Classification Societies), and other relevant authorities.
- Develop Internal Rules and Guidelines:
- Support the Managing Engineers to formulate internal rules, guidelines, and standards for noise and vibration control to address the unique needs of the RINA clients.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of noise and vibration requirements into the classification process.
Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in marine noise and vibration assessments, with a focus on sea trials, vessel inspections, and data analysis related to noise and vibration sources on board maritime vessels.
- Experience in compliance verification for IMO, IACS, and other international standards governing noise and vibration control.
- Familiarity with noise and vibration measurement tools and methodologies used on vessels.
- Certified Acoustics Professional or Certified Noise and Vibration Specialist (e.g., from the Institute of Acoustics or similar industry bodies), (Optional but Beneficial).
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or similar quality certifications if the role involves internal guideline development or regulatory audits (Optional but Beneficial).
- Additional certifications in environmental regulations related to noise and vibration in maritime contexts (Optional but Beneficial).
- Strong knowledge of noise and vibration measurement techniques and tools used on ships and maritime vessels.
- Familiarity with international standards such as those set by the IMO, IACS, and industry-specific organizations, including RINA, SOLAS, and ISO 6954 (guidelines on noise levels for ships).
- Data analysis and interpretation skills to assess noise and vibration data collected from various vessel areas (engine rooms, living quarters, etc.).
- Ability to identify and mitigate noise and vibration sources and recommend technical improvements based on assessments.
- Technical report writing skills for documenting findings, recommendations, and compliance reports.
- Ability to develop and integrate noise and vibration control measures into the design and classification processes, ensuring client needs are addressed.
- Understanding of vessel structure integrity and its relation to noise and vibration issues.
