Mainframe System Engineer (3270)
Collaboration type: FREELANCE – open to candidates across Europe with professional English and Italian skills.
We are supporting a well-established Italian IT company in the search for a Mainframe System Engineer (3270) to join the IT Operations team. The selected candidate will play a key role in managing and maintaining the z/OS infrastructure, ensuring continuity, optimal performance, and technical support to colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Full management of the z/OS environment, including installation, maintenance, configuration, and tuning.
- Administration of key subsystems (JES2, SMS, WLM, DFHSM, CMF, BMC Autooperator, Control/M).
- Installation and updating of products via SMPE.
- Management of network resources VTAM and TCP/IP.
- Use of system utilities: SORT, IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, IEBGENER, ADRDSSU.
- RACF management and configuration.
- System-level support on DB2 and CICS, including SIT configuration and CEDA usage.
- Analysis of dumps, job failures, and application errors in collaboration with the development team.
- Optional contribution with Assembler, COBOL, Rexx knowledge (preferred).
- Preferred experience with Spazio Primeur, CFT Axway, and Microfocus Change-man.
Requirements
- Solid experience with IBM Mainframe z/OS infrastructures.
- Professional proficiency in Italian and English .
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
