Job Title: LQ Mechanical Supervisor (HVAC, Piping and Mech)


Job Purpose

The LQ Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all mechanical construction, installation, and testing activities within the Living Quarters (LQ) of offshore or onshore oil & gas facilities. The role focuses on HVAC systems, utility piping, and associated mechanical equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality installation supporting personnel safety, habitability, and operational readiness.


Key Responsibilities

1. Supervision & Execution

  • Supervise installation and testing of:
  • HVAC systems (AHUs, FCUs, ducting, dampers, insulation)
  • Ventilation and pressurization systems (including hazardous area requirements)
  • Utility piping systems (potable water, drainage, sewage, HVAC piping)
  • Oversee duct fabrication, installation, and routing in confined LQ spaces
  • Supervise mechanical equipment installation related to LQ systems
  • Coordinate mechanical crews, subcontractors, and HVAC specialists on site
  • Review and interpret HVAC drawings, layouts, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets


2. Planning & Coordination

  • Plan daily and weekly LQ mechanical activities in line with project schedule
  • Coordinate closely with:
  • Electrical (for HVAC power and controls)
  • Instrumentation (for control systems and sensors)
  • Architectural/interiors (ceilings, walls, space constraints)
  • Ensure proper sequencing of HVAC and piping works within modular LQ areas
  • Verify availability of HVAC materials, ducting, piping, and equipment before installation


3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, project specs)
  • Inspect ductwork installation, insulation, and sealing to meet quality requirements
  • Verify piping installation, supports, slopes, and connections for utility systems
  • Participate in walkdowns and support LQ mechanical punch list clearance
  • Ensure cleanliness of HVAC systems (duct flushing, internal cleanliness) prior to commissioning


4. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce HSE policies, especially for:
  • Confined space work
  • Work at height (duct installation)
  • Lifting and rigging in restricted areas
  • Conduct toolbox talks and task risk assessments
  • Ensure safe installation practices for HVAC and piping systems
  • Intervene and stop unsafe work when required


5. Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Support HVAC and piping system testing including:
  • Air balancing and ventilation testing
  • Pressure testing of utility piping
  • Leak testing and flushing
  • Assist in preparation of test packs and commissioning documentation
  • Support pre-commissioning activities for LQ systems
  • Participate in system handover and readiness reviews


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and offshore ventilation requirements
  • Familiarity with utility piping systems (water, drainage, sewage)
  • Ability to read HVAC layouts, ducting drawings, and mechanical plans
  • Understanding of LQ-specific requirements (pressurization, smoke control, habitability)
  • Good coordination skills across multiple disciplines in confined/modular environments
  • Knowledge of QA/QC processes and punch list management


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical construction within oil & gas, including HVAC/LQ scope
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken), with reporting capability


Preferred Experience

  • Offshore project experience (LQ modules or accommodation blocks)
  • Familiarity with HVAC standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA)
  • Experience in modular construction or fabrication yard environments
