Legal & Regulatory Affairs Specialist - Food & Packaging
We are looking for a Legal & Regulatory Affairs Specialist responsible for developing and implementing internal policies and standards to ensure full compliance with food, packaging, and machinery regulations. The role includes monitoring and interpreting existing legislation, assessing potential regulatory changes, updating internal policies, providing hands‑on support in the daily assessment of regulatory requirements, drafting and maintaining internal documentation, and reviewing product‑related materials. The position works closely with cross‑functional teams such as R&D and Food Safety, as well as with external laboratories and service providers. It also manages interactions with regulatory authorities and audit activities, supports regulatory submissions, and monitors KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance processes and report findings to senior management.
Day-to-Day Activities
- Assess and interpret applicable regulatory requirements, technical standards, and legal limits relevant to products and related materials.
- Draft, review, and update regulatory documentation, internal guidelines, and compliance‑related materials.
- Review and approve product labels and other mandatory information from a regulatory standpoint.
- Support cross‑functional projects by working closely with R&D, Food Safety, Marketing, and other internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate information flows and correspondence with internal teams, external laboratories, consultants, and service providers in Italian and English.
- Maintain horizon scanning trackers and support the monitoring of regulatory developments, deadlines, follow‑ups, and deliverables.
- Contribute to the preparation of specifications and other documents supporting product development and compliance processes.
Qualifications
- 3‑5 years of experience in a similar regulatory role, preferably in medium or large food industry companies.
- Professional proficiency in Italian and English, both written and spoken.
- Solid knowledge of EU regulatory frameworks and their practical application.
- Detail‑oriented, well‑organized, and able to manage multiple topics in parallel.
- Practical, hands‑on, and execution‑focused approach.
- Ability to work effectively within established processes, workflows, and escalation paths.
- Reliability, discretion, and sound judgement when dealing with sensitive or confidential matters.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks outside the EU, particularly in the US, Australia, or China.
- Experience with horizon scanning tools or regulatory monitoring databases.
