SMS group is looking for a Lead Technical Engineer for our Center of Excellence "Long Products".


The Lead Technical Engineer will act as the primary technical reference for a specific type of steel plant, supporting projects from the pre-sales phase through to the completion of commissioning.

The role focuses on providing high-level technical expertise, both internally and directly to customers, ensuring optimal solutions and consistent technical standards.


Task and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support during the pre-sales phase, including customer requirements analysis, solution definition, and preparation of technical sales documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department to define specifications, layouts, and plant solutions.
  • Offer internal technical consultancy to design, manufacturing, supply chain, and commissioning teams.
  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for the customer throughout project execution, addressing technical queries and clarifications.
  • Collect technical feedback from projects to improve future standards and solutions.
  • Contribute to the standardization of similar plants to optimize design time and costs.
  • Lead the commissioning on field of the specific equipment under his responsibility


Main Skills

  • Strong Leadership, communication and team management abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of production processes and technologies in the steel industry, with specific expertise in the operation of plants to produce long products (Bars and wire rod).
  • Previous experience in managing complex products
  • Goal oriented mindset, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage change effectively
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Excellent command of the English language (Written and spoken)


Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical-industrial experience, preferably in the steel industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of steel plant processes and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical matters to international customers.
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Work on construction site worldwide for the duration of the commissioning of the equipment under his responsibility.
