Job Purpose
As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Generative AI, you will design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge LLM-based agentic applications. This role requires hands-on expertise in frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph, and techniques including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and fine-tuning. You will be expected to deliver tangible results yourself. You will build solutions to meet functional requirements for innovative Trimble products, collaborating across global teams and leveraging agile methodologies. Your work will directly influence the delivery of intelligent, scalable, and robust AI-driven applications. Additionally, you will provide non-technical management with insights into the capabilities, risks, and opportunities of specific technologies.
Main Responsibilities

- Learn and adopt agentic frameworks like LangChain or LangGraph to orchestrate LLM-based agents.
- Utilize RAG techniques such as chunking, hybrid search, query translation, similarity search, vector databases, evaluation metrics, and ANN algorithms.
- Monitor performance using observability tools such as Datadog and Databricks for LLM observability and analytics.
- Stay updated with the latest research in fine-tuning, RLHF, and prompt engineering advancements like DSPy.
- Translate high-level product requirements into scalable, modular designs following modern architecture principles, microservices, and cloud-native practices.
- Develop comprehensive test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end) to ensure code quality and high test coverage. Perform system integration, bug fixes, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts and product managers. Mentor junior engineers in LLM-based solution design and deployment.
- Work within an agile environment, planning sprints, meeting deadlines, and managing production issues across time zones.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and manage code in GitHub for seamless releases.
Key Result Areas
- Deliver production-ready LLM-based applications on schedule with quality and scalability.
- Ensure high-quality daily releases with extensive automated test coverage.
- Identify and communicate risks proactively. Report development progress and metrics transparently.

- Leadership and mentoring abilities, providing technical guidance.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Knowledge of microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with RESTful APIs and database systems (NoSQL, PostgreSQL).
- Proficiency with Git and version control.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills for designing efficient solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
