Mission

The Layout & Piping Thermal Insulation Engineer, within the Materials & Works Quantity Estimating and Management group, is responsible for defining project, supply, and installation requirements for thermal insulation of piping, instruments, and plant equipment.

The role includes managing all aspects related to thermal insulation and heat dissipation for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with project budget, schedule, and contractual requirements.

The level of involvement may vary depending on project complexity and specific technical requirements.


Main Activities & Responsibilities

The Layout & Piping Thermal Insulation Engineer is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the quality of the produced documentation and compliance with project contractual requirements, within the assigned budget and schedule;
  • Preparing insulation specifications, including calculation of insulation thickness when required, and interfacing with Client representatives when necessary;
  • Ensuring correct population and management of insulation data in systems such as Web Stream and Line List;
  • Preparing Insulation Material Requisitions, ensuring completeness of technical annexes and supply specifications;
  • Preparing or reviewing (when required by the Group Leader) insulation QPLs (Qualified Products Lists) in line with project strategy and schedule;
  • Preparing or reviewing Work Requisitions for insulation, ensuring consistency with other disciplines and optimizing construction costs; supporting claim discussions when needed;
  • Participating in technical review meetings with subcontractors and evaluating the technical acceptability of their proposals;
  • Reviewing and evaluating Material Approval Requests submitted by insulation subcontractors;
  • Supporting the Group Leader in preparing engineering documentation required for subcontractor technical qualification;
  • Ensuring the application and continuous update of standards, procedures, calculation tools, and work instructions related to thermal insulation;
  • Supporting the definition of strategies for non-standard projects and sharing knowledge with the team;
  • Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of departmental standards, procedures, and best practices;
  • Monitoring market developments and providing technical evaluations on new materials, technologies, and methodologies;
  • Keeping the Group Leader regularly informed on the progress of assigned activities;
  • Delivering technical training sessions or seminars when required by the Department or the Company.


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Energy Engineering (Energy specialization preferred);
  • 5–8 years of experience in thermal insulation engineering within EPC companies or industrial environments (oil & gas, petrochemical, energy);
  • Solid knowledge of thermal insulation systems for piping, equipment, and instruments;
  • Experience in preparation of technical specifications, material requisitions, and work requisitions;
  • Familiarity with subcontractor management, technical bid evaluation, and material approval processes;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD;
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams;
  • Proactive mindset, problem-solving attitude, and ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
