Short description of the position:

The Center for Autonomy Experience is looking for a junior researcher in the field of Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law, who will join our team in supporting the activities of an Alliance in the field of Equality and Anti-Discrimination law reform.

The Equality for All Academic Action Alliance ("the Alliance") is a global platform connecting academic stakeholders and students – in particular, universities, faculties, legal clinics, research centers, networks of academics and practitioners, pan‑university groups of researchers, academic researchers and students in the field of law as well as other disciplines as relevant – with national equality law movements.

With the support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Alliance was launched in July 2025 to bring academic institutions from around the world together. The Alliance aims to support efforts to advance the adoption and reform of comprehensive anti‑discrimination legislation at national level in response to the needs of equality activists and movements. The Alliance seeks to support communities, activists, law‑and‑policy‑makers and any individual, movement or institution involved in equality law adoption and reform at national level, including by providing academic expertise, advancing knowledge building and sharing, and promoting legal education concerning equality and anti‑discrimination law.

Tasks

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the Co-Chairs of the Alliance in all administrative and organisational issues, such as communication with the members, organising Governing Board meetings and the General Assembly meetings of the Alliance’s Members, acting as minutes‑taker and minutes‑master for meetings of the Alliance Board and related meetings, etc.;
  • Contribute to research dissemination through scientific and transfer‑oriented publications and activities, and to the global visibility of the Alliance
  • Act as informational focal point for important announcements and matters of interest to the Alliance Membership;
  • Support the advancement of Alliance branding, informational, and outreach goals, such as the development of a website; creation of brochures and related outreach products; maintenance of Alliance lists, databasing of Alliance‑related information;
  • Prepare packages of applications for Membership in the Alliance for review by the Board;
  • Participation in the group’s and Center’s general activities;
  • Liaise regularly with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on Alliance‑related matters.

Requirements

  • MA or equivalent in the field of law or other relevant fields, with a solid understanding of equality and non‑discrimination themes and law;
  • Social and communication skills;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Ability to work in a research team and in a flexible and interdisciplinary setting;
  • Willingness to move to South Tyrol;
  • Readiness to travel;
  • Ability to work with international partners and in intercultural environments;
  • Strong command of spoken and written English;
  • Competence with office‑related computer programs;
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of North‑South issues, minority concerns and other matters related to interface with vulnerable people and excluded groups;
  • Dedication to problem‑solving.

Advantages

  • Basic knowledge of German and/or Italian is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of one or more minority languages is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of Canva or other graphic design programs is an advantage;
  • Familiarity with website creation and maintenance is an advantage.
