Descrizione dell'offerta
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a Junior Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Imaging and Simulation to contribute to the development of advanced computational tools within an innovative project funded under the Area Science Park Deep Tech Revolution initiative. This position is designed as an early-career research opportunity for candidates willing to develop hands-on experience in simulation and AI within a real industrial R&D environment.
The selected candidate will support the development of numerical simulation workflows and machine learning models applied to cardiovascular analysis, working closely with our R&D team.
This position is funded by Area Science Park and carried out in collaboration with LivGemini. The selected candidate will not be directly employed by the company, but will work closely with its R&D team.
Applications are open from April 3rd to May 10th, 2026.
ABOUT LIVGEMINI
LivGemini is an innovative start-up based in Italy developing medical software solutions in the cardiovascular field, leveraging AI and Digital Twin technologies for diagnosis and pre-operative planning.
The company originated from the Horizon 2020 research project MeDiTATe, where its core technologies were initially developed and validated.
LivGemini is certified under ISO 13485 for its Quality Management System and is part of the UniCredit Start Lab program. The company has also received multiple recognitions within the Italian innovation ecosystem, including the Italian Innovation Award in the MedTech category in 2023.
ABOUT THE JOB
The candidate will work in a dynamic R&D environment, gaining expertise in the integration of medical imaging and computational modeling. Key responsibilities include:
- Medical Image Analysis: supporting the processing of clinical data (e.g., CT scans), focusing on segmentation and extraction of complex anatomical structures.
- In-silico Modeling: contributing to the development of simulation pipelines (FEM, CFD) applied to patient-specific cardiovascular domains.
- Machine Learning: implementing data-driven models for predicting biomechanical and hemodynamic outputs.
- Prototyping & Validation: Collaborating on the development of a specific research prototype.
- R&D Integration: contributing to internal research activities within the framework of the "Deep Tech Revolution" project.
FELLOWSHIP TERMS
The position is structured as a 12-month research fellowship designed to foster professional growth, with the following conditions:
- Economic treatment: the fellowship provides a gross annual amount of €16,800 (€1,400 per month).
- Institutional alignment: the grant is strictly aligned with the standard funding schemes for research fellowships supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

• Academical experience in medical image analysis (e.g., segmentation, image processing)
• Preferred experience or academic exposure to numerical simulation methods (e.g., FEM, CFD)
• Proficiency in Python programming
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
• Fluency in English (written and spoken)
The preferred technical stack includes libraries such as PyTorch/TensorFlow for ML, ANSYS/OpenFOAM/SimVascular for simulations, and VTK/ITK for image processing.
