Job Title: Junior Design Engineer

Varionova is an innovative engineering company pioneering the development of next-generation transmission systems, including RatioZero and Crown Drive technologies. We collaborate with leading universities such as Politecnico di Milano and industry partners across mobility, robotics, industrial automation, and heavy-duty sectors. Our mission is to redefine power transmission efficiency through precision engineering, research, and hands-on prototyping.
Why This Role
We are scaling multiple projects in parallel and expanding our engineering capacity to support each major initiative with a dedicated design resource. As a Junior Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in strengthening our internal engineering capabilities, accelerating design execution, and contributing directly to the development of cutting-edge mechanical systems.
What You’ll Do
- Support CAD design and modeling of transmission components and assemblies
- Participate in mechanical calculations, tolerance analyses, and design validation activities
- Collaborate with the CTO and senior engineers on prototype development and testing
- Draft technical drawings and contribute to engineering documentation
- Assist in prototype assembly, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting
- Contribute to design improvement sessions and R&D projects with academic partners
- Manage day-to-day design decisions within assigned components under senior guidance
Who We’re Looking For
Must-have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Good proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo or equivalent)
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical design and component analysis
- Basic understanding of transmission systems
- Passion for mechanical design and prototype-building
- Italian language mandatory, English proficiency required
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with MATLAB or basic simulation tools
- Project or thesis experience related to transmission systems, gears, or mechanical systems
- Internship or early professional experience in mechanical design environments
Soft Skills:

What We Offer
Compensation: Gross annual salary of €26,000 – €30,000, based on experience
Benefits: Mentorship from industry experts, exposure to deep-tech projects, and hands-on prototype development
Work Mode: Hybrid (approx. 2 days per week on-site)
Work Location: San Marino area (preferably living between Bologna and Pesaro)
Growth: Continuous technical learning, direct collaboration with the CTO, and potential to evolve toward Independent Design Engineer roles as experience grows
