Cultural Heritage Field Guide – Rome (July 14–16)
Erasmus Mobility Academy (EMA) is looking for a Rome-based cultural heritage guide to lead on-site field sessions for approximately 7 international educators taking part in our Erasmus+ KA1 training course "Cultural Heritage Education: Rome."
Dates: Tuesday–Thursday, July 14–16, 2026 (3 full days)
Location: Rome, Italy – you must be based in Rome or the immediate surrounding area
Group: ~7 European educators (teachers, school staff) from different EU countries
Language: English (all sessions conducted in English)
Contract: Freelance / project-based, fee negotiable
About the Program
The course is a structured Erasmus+ professional development program for educators. Three days are dedicated to guided field study walks across Rome's most significant cultural heritage sites. Your role is to lead these walks with educational depth, connecting each site to themes such as architectural history, urban identity, art history, and intangible heritage.
Field Itinerary (3 Days)
Day 1 – Ancient Rome & Imperial Center
Colosseum exterior, Arch of Constantine, Via dei Fori Imperiali (Forums of Caesar, Augustus, Trajan), Piazza del Campidoglio, Roman Forum panoramic terrace
Day 2 – Vatican & Trastevere
St. Peter's Square and Basilica (Bernini's colonnade, Michelangelo's Pietà, Bernini's Baldacchino), walk along the Tiber into Trastevere
Day 3 – Baroque Rome
Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona (Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers), Church of San Luigi dei Francesi (Caravaggio triptych)
What We Need From You
You will guide the group on foot through these sequential walking routes, providing historical and cultural commentary suited to an educated adult audience. You will need to connect site observations to broader pedagogical themes (how these spaces can be used as "open-air classrooms"), support field tasks and observation exercises, and adapt your pace and content to a mixed European audience with different disciplinary backgrounds.
We Are Looking For
Someone currently living in Rome (non-negotiable – this is a 3-day on-site role)
Strong knowledge of Roman history, art history, and architectural heritage across all three itineraries
Proven experience guiding adult groups, ideally international or educational groups
Fluent English – clear, engaging communication style
Familiarity with Erasmus+ or similar educational mobility programs is a plus
A practical, field-oriented approach – we need a guide, not a lecturer
Not the Right Fit If
You are not based in Rome
Your background is primarily academic / theoretical with no field guiding experience
You are unavailable for all three full days (July 14, 15, and 16)
