Role Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation & Automation Engineer for a long term, full time contract based in Milan, Italy. In this role, you will be a key technical contributor to a major, multiphase offshore energy project. You will be responsible for the design, technical evaluation, and oversight of complex instrumentation and automation systems, ensuring they meet rigorous international safety and operational standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Design Review: Develop and review technical specifications for field instrumentation (pressure, flow, level, temperature) and complex automation systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and ESD).
  • Documentation: Prepare and audit critical engineering deliverables, including Instrument Indexes, I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring schematics and control philosophy documents.
  • Vendor Management: Lead Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for instrumentation and automation packages. Review vendor drawings and documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Lifecycle Testing: Participate in and oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to ensure system integrity before deployment.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs comply with international codes and standards (IEC, ISA, API, ISO, ATEX) and participate in safety studies such as HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL assessments.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Act as the technical focal point between EPC contractors, vendors, and internal project management teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.


Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in the Oil & Gas sector, specifically focused on offshore platforms or subsea systems.
  • Systems Expertise: Hands on experience with major control platforms (e.g., Yokogawa, Honeywell, Siemens, or Emerson) and specialized systems like Fire & Gas (F&G) or Machine Monitoring.
  • Standards Knowledge: Deep familiarity with hazardous area classifications and international regulatory frameworks for offshore environments.
  • Language Skills: Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory, as this is the primary language for project documentation and international coordination.
