HPC Engineer
We’re looking for an HPC Engineer to accelerate world-class research. You’ll help research teams launch projects, select and adopt scientific software, and operate a modern HPC environment (on-prem and third-party/cloud).
What you optimize will speed up science for many people.
Mission
- Researcher enablement: onboard projects, guide scientific software selection/adoption, and manage licensing.
- HPC operations: set up, administer, allocate resources, and optimize the on-prem cluster.
- Cloud/third-party HPC: manage providers and enable bursting when needed.
- Monitoring & reporting: track usage/performance and produce clear reports for data-driven decisions.
- Scouting & experimentation: evaluate new HPC solutions and propose platform improvements.
- Documentation & policy: publish quick guides, procedures, and usage/priority policies.
What you’ll do
- Partner with PIs and research teams to stand up and tune CPU/GPU workflows.
- Maintain and improve the HPC stack (scheduler, environment modules, license services, storage, logging).
- Enable secure, multi-user Jupyter access with sensible resource caps.
- Deliver regular usage/performance reports to support capacity planning and fair allocation.
Minimum requirements
- STEM PhD or equivalent hands-on experience working with research groups/academic environments.
- Proven experience using and administering HPC infrastructures.
- Fluent English; clear communicator; outcome-oriented.
- Strong in most of: Linux & shell scripting; Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, Matplotlib); C; multithreading and multi-node computing; MPI; GPU optimization for neural networks; Jupyter; basic data-science workflows.
Nice to have
- Experience with schedulers (e.g., SLURM/PBS), containers (Apptainer/Singularity; Docker for builds), environment modules, license management (e.g., FlexLM), and accounting/quotas.
What you’ll find here
- Real impact on research outcomes—your work shortens time-to-insight.
- Access to advanced HPC technologies and room to experiment.
- An international, collaborative environment with high standards and curiosity.
