Head of Systems Engineering
Location: Turin, Italy
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
A fast-growing European space systems manufacturer is seeking a Head of Systems Engineering to lead end-to-end systems engineering across multiple satellite programmes, from early concept through qualification and delivery.
This is a senior leadership role with full ownership of systems engineering strategy, processes, and team development. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary group of engineers, working closely with engineering, programme, and product leadership to deliver complex space missions to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing Systems Engineering team
- Own systems engineering processes, tools, and best practices across programmes
- Oversee requirements management, interfaces, and system architecture
- Support major programme milestones and technical reviews
- Coordinate resources across projects in line with programme priorities
- Guide recruitment, capability development, and technical documentation delivery
- Contribute to unit budgeting and long-term technical strategy
Experience & Background
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline
- 7+ years’ experience in space systems engineering
- Strong background in satellite design, development, and qualification
- Deep knowledge of ECSS / aerospace systems standards
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-project engineering environments
- Fluent English; strong communicator across technical and non-technical teams
Nice to Have
- Experience in space or defence programmes
- Exposure to ground segment architecture and operations
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar tools
