Descrizione dell'offerta

The KHI is seeking a Head of Research Coordination and Public Relations for a three-year position beginning September 1st 2026. The deadline for applications is 31 May 2026.

We are looking for a collegial, enthusiastic and flexible candidate with a scholarly background in the History of Art or Architecture. The ideal candidate will have a structured and solution‑oriented working style and be prepared to take on a challenging, rewarding position with a high level of responsibility. The Head will work with a small team to coordinate and communicate the vibrant research conducted at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max‑Planck‑Institut.

Founded in 1897 and part of the Max Planck Society since 2002, the KHI serves as a laboratory of fundamental research in art history that engages with other disciplines. Recent projects focus on the histories of art, architecture and photography from a transcultural perspective across time, method and geography. The KHI’s research interweaves critical engagement with contemporary debates on ecology, aesthetics, ethics, urbanization, heritage, geopolitics, migration, care discourses, visual culture, global art worlds, museum and archive futures, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and more. The Institute also hosts public events in Florence, Berlin and beyond, fostering international, transdisciplinary academic exchange.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the KHI events program.
  • Prepare and report on the Research Report for the Scientific Advisory Board.
  • Develop and oversee scholarly and institutional communication, including corporate identity, website, newsletter, social media and print/digital publications.
  • Organize and manage press communications and media relations.
  • Supervise onboarding and off‑boarding processes.
  • Handle internal communication, including the intranet.

Requirements

  • University degree (Master’s or PhD) focused on art history and/or history of architecture.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the humanities research landscape.
  • Experience in research management, public relations and institutional communication.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills.
  • Excellent command of two of the three languages regularly used at the KHI – German, Italian and English – and very good command of the third.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, leadership qualities, flexibility and resilience.

Remuneration and benefits

  • Full‑time position for three years.
  • Remuneration based on TVöD E 14, plus applicable assignment abroad allowances in accordance with 45 BT‑V TVöD.
  • Social benefits in line with German federal public‑service regulations; alternatively, a contract under Italian law with equivalent remuneration will be offered.

The position is based in Florence and may not be held concurrently with other employment or obligations.

The Max Planck Society is committed to equal opportunities and diversity and welcomes applications from all backgrounds, regardless of gender, ethnic origin, disability or sexual orientation.
