Head of Research And Development

BeDimensional S.p.A. is looking for a talented top-class researcher, with a strong background in two-dimensional (2D) materials technology, processing, and applications, that will drive the blue-sky R&D activities of the company.

As the Head of Blue-sky R&D, the candidate will coordinate the research programs on graphene and other 2D crystals, aligning with the company mission and propelling towards the future.

The Head of Blue-sky R&D will lead a team of bright minds, crafting strategies, and seeking funding opportunities. He/She will collaborate with cross-functional teams, implement processes/products improvement initiatives, and contribute to the overall success of our organisation.

The successful candidate will work in the Innovation Department of BeDimensional in close collaboration with the Scientific Director, maintaining close contact with the Prototyping, Measures and Certifications&Services units of the Innovation Department, as well as with the units of other Departments.

Selected candidates will join the Blue-Sky Research team of BeDimensional located in Genova.

Objectives of the role:

• Lead key long term R&D projects
• Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study the potential of new 2D materials-based products
• Coordinate the company activities in building consortia for National/European projects and defining the proposals
• Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers
• Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with Marketing/Sales and Operations Departments
• Transfer new technologies, products, and manufacturing processes into and out of the company
• Research, design and evaluate new 2D materials and their heterostructures, assemblies, processes, and equipment
• Suggest training tools to enhance employee performance and skill development
• Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals
• Document all phases of research and development
• Oversee research projects, analyse results and provide recommendations based on findings
• Assess the scope of research projects and ensure they are on time and within the allocated budget
• Participate at academic/industry conferences on research topics of interest for the company
• Support Scientific Director to hire and develop R&D personnel
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in 2D material technologies to pinpoint trends and opportunities for new research initiatives
• Write technical reports, research papers and patents

Basic requirements required:

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or Engineering
• 5+ years of experience as Postdoctoral fellow
• 2+ years of experience with 2D materials technology
• Involvement in National/European projects
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues
• Working knowledge of process safety, risk assessment and compliance with regulatory standards
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple internal and external (National/European) projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Availability for teamwork and orientation towards "problem solving"
• Rigor and analytical ability
• Flexibility and adaptability necessary in a start-up context
• Mastery of the English language

A strong background in electrochemistry will be considered a plus.

Excellent English communication skills, creativity and marked enthusiasm for research are mandatory.
