Based in Padova, you will join Mercuryo’s Risk & Compliance Team as their new Compliance Senior Manager and lead our Regulatory Compliance efforts in Italy.
As such, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing all compliance-related activities within Italy, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. This role involves developing and implementing compliance policies, conducting risk assessments, and leading the compliance team to maintain a robust regulatory framework.
You will also be driving the implementation and maintenance of MiCA in Italy, including local policies, procedures, and systems, and provide guidance and training to our staff and partners on all regulatory matters. You will report directly to the Group Head of Regulatory Compliance and work closely with other senior leaders and stakeholders across the company.
With your previous professional experience with regulators such as CONSOB, BdI, etc. you will demonstrate excellent knowledge in areas such as Capital Markets, FinTech, and Crypto and will manage relationships with regulators in Italy to represent Mercuryo’s interest.
Your network in the region will help us establishing new and fostering existing relationships with industry associations, banks and financial institutions, and other key partners across Italy.
Your Role:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s compliance program and policies to ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and advise senior management on potential impacts to the company.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Lead and manage our regulatory compliance efforts, providing guidance and support to ensure effective compliance operations.
- Oversee the development and delivery of compliance training programs for employees.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors, managing regulatory examinations and ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, including Legal, Finance, Operations, and IT, to ensure compliance is integrated into all business processes.
- Create and update compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated and enforced across the organisation.
- Monitor, test and analyse the effectiveness of the compliance program, making improvements as necessary.
- Be a sparing and sandbox partner to the Product Team to support their efforts releasing new and enhancing existing products across the Mercuryo group.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all regulatory compliance-related matters within the organisation.
- Serve as a strategic partner to the senior management team at Mercuryo, overseeing operations in Italy, and actively contribute to the business expansion.
- Work with global teams to implement and execute activities to expand our value proposition for brand awareness and market share gain locally.
- Foster relationships with local banking institutions, enabling regional customers to access Mercuryo Services.
- Foster effective cross-functional collaboration with compliance, legal, and government relations teams to drive business operations for the region.
- Build new relationships and contribute to the local community through strategic initiatives that make us a strong part of the digital asset ecosystem in the region.
What We’re Looking For:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in law, business and economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in regulatory compliance, ideally with a regulatory body but preferably also within the crypto-asset, fintech, or financial instruments market.
- A solid understanding of MiCA, MiFID II, PSD2, and EMD2, and their implications for our business.
- A good understanding of all 2nd Line compliance oversight areas, in particular regulatory compliance and consumer protection.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, and the ability to explain complex compliance issues and concepts to various audiences and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- A high level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential data and information.
- Fluent in English.
What We Love About You:
- A proven track record of developing and implementing compliance strategies, frameworks, and controls.
- A pragmatic mindset coupled with legal, compliance, or financial qualifications.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to tailor your approach to the audience.
- Proficiency in additional languages (advantageous but not necessary).
