Overview
Reporting directly to the GC&C Head of Insurance, the Head of Property, Engineering and Construction will lead two of GC&C’s large and technically complex lines of business—Property and Engineering—by driving underwriting excellence, commercial impact, and strategic transformation. This role is pivotal to executing GC&C’s strategy and delivering on its ambition to become a key profit contributor to the Group.
Responsibilities
- Translate GC&C’s strategic priorities—technical excellence, client-centric growth, and product/geographic diversification—into actionable plans for Property and Engineering.
- Own and execute the Portfolio Strategy Statement (PSS) for Property and Engineering, ensuring alignment with the KPI, including the normalized loss ratios and profitability targets.
- Lead transversal initiatives that support GC&C’s business transformation, including PRR (Process Review and Reengineering), ESG integration, and digital capability upgrades.
- Ensure best-in-class underwriting practices through rigorous governance, technical reviews, and adoption of best-in-class global tools, including pricing tools, policy wordings, and risk appetite frameworks.
- Oversee the implementation of and compliance with GC&C’s Underwriting Operating Procedures and Group Technical Measures.
- Drive automation and data quality initiatives, including post-bind data processing and adoption of golden sources.
- Lead pricing strategy, capacity deployment, and portfolio optimization to maximize profitability and client value.
- Strengthen GC&C’s market visibility and broker relationships through coordinated global and local engagement.
- Support the expansion of GC&C’s multinational and captive segments and develop tailored solutions for complex industrial risks.
- Inspire and manage a high-performing international team of underwriters and technical experts.
- Foster a “Next Level” mindset across the team, promoting innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
- Champion people excellence through talent development, succession planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements
The candidate will meet the following requirements:
- 15+ years in Property and/or Engineering underwriting within a multinational insurance or reinsurance environment.
- Proven leadership of diverse, international teams and strategic transformation programs.
- Deep technical expertise in industrial property and engineering risks, CAT modelling, pricing and reinsurance (both treaty and facultative).
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in client engagement, product development, and portfolio management.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks, AI-driven underwriting tools, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
