- About the GIS team
- Head of GIS
- to lead our dynamic and skilled GIS team of 30+ members. This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on management to optimize team performance, scale operations as volumes grow, and heavy cross-functional collaboration across different time zones. This role reports to the VP of Product Delivery.
- Your responsibilities will include
- Budgeting and talent acquisition
- Defining the organizational structure and roles within the GIS team to align with business objectives and maintain acceptable costs
- Identifying skill gaps and creating strategies to attract top GIS talent
- Collaborating with HR to conduct effective recruitment processes
- Developing onboarding programs to integrate new hires and ensure their success within the team
- Building and maintaining a collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Planning and executing the successful reassembly of the GIS team due to the transition to a remote-first team
- Setting clear expectations, goals, and performance metrics for team members
- Providing regular feedback, coaching, and support to foster professional growth for mid-level GIS management
- Resolving conflicts and addressing team dynamics to ensure smooth operations
- Recognizing and rewarding team achievements to boost motivation and engagement
- Planning & executing training and development programs
- Building efficient processes that help deliver high-quality scans/requests while maintaining SLA within the GIS team and across the entire product delivery chain, closely collaborating with leadership of other departments
- Using analytics to identify workflow, technology, or product gaps and finding ways to optimize them
- Ensuring data quality, accuracy, and consistency across GIS platforms
- Tracking and reporting on team KPIs and preparing monthly updates for management
- Collaborating closely with Engineering and Operations teams
- Facilitating communication within and across teams to ensure smooth operations
- Professional skills required:
- Software knowledge: GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.), AutoCAD, photogrammetric software (Metashape, Pix4D, Photomod, etc.), or experience with CAD, civil engineering, geodesy, BIM, or construction organization.
- English language skills: C1-C2 (Fluent)
- Experience working with spatial data in GIS, knowledge of coordinate systems
- 5+ years in a managerial position
- Proven ability to manage, restructure, and grow teams during transformations or relocations
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and collaborate cross-functionally
- Strategic thinking: assessing opportunities and challenges, making decisions aligned with long-term goals
- Stress resistance & conflict resolution: staying calm under pressure, resolving conflicts constructively
- Initiative: proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and driving change
- Leadership & decision-making: inspiring and guiding teams, making informed decisions, achieving shared goals
The GIS team develops photogrammetry data gathered by drones, georeferences blueprints and surfaces, fills the platform with cartographic data, develops custom solutions and prototypes, and enables flight marker placement and other fieldwork.
