Head of European Programmes – Research, Funding & Strategic Partnerships

Full-time position

  • Hybrid work model (remote and/or on-site in Milan, Boston, or Riyadh )
  • Travel and meeting expenses will be reimbursed upon approval
  • An NDA must be signed

This position may evolve into Director of European Research Programmes or Chief Research & Funding Strategist , depending on performance and institutional growth.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Head of European Programmes responsible for coordinating Institute Itech’s participation in European research and innovation programmes .

This role combines scientific coordination, strategic funding development, and economic planning , ensuring that Institute Itech successfully engages with European research ecosystems.

The selected candidate will lead the preparation and management of European funding initiatives and coordinate collaborations with universities, research institutes, and innovation partners.

Responsibilities:

European Funding Strategy

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities within European research programmes such as Horizon Europe, ERC, EIC, LIFE, and other EU funding frameworks
  • Lead the preparation and submission of European project proposals
  • Coordinate project structures, funding strategies, and consortium development

Economic and Strategic Planning

  • Support financial and economic planning of research projects
  • Contribute to project budgeting, financial projections, and funding allocation strategies
  • Assist executive leadership in structuring sustainable research investment strategies

Scientific Coordination

  • Manage relationships with universities, research institutions, and scientific partners
  • Coordinate academic collaborations and research consortiums
  • Support scientific governance and project oversight

Programme Management

  • Monitor progress of funded research programmes
  • Ensure compliance with European funding regulations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate communication between research teams, partners, and institutional stakeholders

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in European research programmes, grant writing, or research management
  • Strong knowledge of European funding mechanisms and research frameworks
  • Experience coordinating international research collaborations
  • Ability to develop strategic project proposals and research programmes
  • Strong analytical and economic planning skills
  • Fluent English (Italian is a strong advantage)
  • Master’s degree required; PhD preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Horizon Europe or other EU-funded research programmes
  • Network within European universities, research institutes, or innovation clusters
  • Experience managing large research consortiums
  • Background in technology, engineering, sustainability, or scientific research environments
  • Experience in economic planning for research projects

Compensation

Annual Gross Salary: €54,000 – €84,000 , depending on experience and expertise.

Additional incentives may be considered based on successfully secured European research funding.
