Overview
H-FARM International School Venice is a continuing period of growth, with a boarding community of over 200 students drawn from across the world. We are seeking an exceptional Head of Boarding to lead and shape a residential environment that is safe, ambitious, humane and intellectually alive.
The Head of Boarding is a senior pastoral leader who will cultivate a family-centred boarding culture grounded in the School's Six Dimensions of Success: emotional, social, learning, community, language and future preparedness. The role requires a deep commitment to the individual growth of each student and to the creation of a boarding experience that empowers young people to become confident, principled and future-ready.
The successful candidate will lead a large and growing residential team, serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and act as a visible daily presence in the life of the houses. Safeguarding is central to the role: the Head of Boarding is expected to model, promote and enforce the highest standards of child protection and student welfare in line with Nord Anglia Education expectations. They will contribute to the wider life of the School through extracurricular and, where appropriate, academic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management
Provide strategic and operational leadership for a boarding community of 200+ students, ensuring excellence in pastoral care, safeguarding and student experience. Contribute to the Campus Senior Leadership Team, shaping school strategy and decision-making. Promote a safeguarding culture where student safety, dignity and wellbeing are the priority. Line manage Houseparents, Coordinators and Boarding Assistants, setting clear expectations and supporting professional accountability and development. Chair boarding leadership meetings and collaborate with programme leaders and the Head of School.
- Operations and Residential Environment
Ensure boarding facilities are safe, secure and well maintained. Oversee duty rotas, on-call systems and staffing cover to ensure continuous supervision. Maintain accurate safeguarding and incident records. Coordinate with operations, maintenance and IT to resolve residential issues efficiently. Monitor cleaning, laundry and logistics. Liaise with transport providers. Conduct risk assessments and health and safety audits.
- Student Welfare, Behaviour and Leadership
Serve as senior contact for pastoral, behavioural and safeguarding matters. Uphold high standards of conduct aligned with school values. Work with academic and wellbeing teams to support student development. Liaise with the School nurse on health and wellbeing. Develop the House system to promote belonging and leadership. Support student leadership and a programme of supervised weekend and experiential activities.
- Communication and Community
Maintain regular communication with families regarding student welfare. Review and update boarding policies and guidance. Lead parent information sessions. Support staff induction and professional learning. Assist marketing and admissions through events, tours and interviews.
- Training and Development
Design and deliver induction programmes for staff and students, with safeguarding as a core focus. Lead staff training in safeguarding, first aid and residential practice. Maintain training records and ensure compliance with safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
