For one of our esteemed clients in Italy, we are looking for a Grid Manager who will be responsible to ensure the grid connections on our large-scale solar projects in Italy are delivered and to ensure that the connection process is appropriately managed from early design to successful completion.


Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance during project development and ensure the factors influencing and influenced by the grid connection are considered.

• Develop and maintain excellent relationships with the TSO/DNO.

• Carry out technical due diligence and risk assessment on grid connection schemes/grid offers received from TSO/DNO.

• Manage Consultants and Developers to support Grid delivery.

• Proficiency with the web portals relevant for the grid connection (E-distribuzione, MyTerna (including superuser appointment), GAUDI.

• Desirable but not mandatory proficiency with the GSE and Customs Agency (Agenzia delle Dogane) processes and web portals;

• Provide the cost estimates and grid connection delivery timescales.

• Take ownership of the process of grid applications ensuring they are submitted in a timely manner and progress through the DNO/TSO and National processes without delay.

• Establish relationships with competent HV/MV contractors and EPCs to drive performance and value without compromising quality.

• Review the technical designs submitted by HV/MV contractors and /or EPCs.

• Be able to act on new connection methods arising from DNO/TSO policy changes and changing industry standards.

• Develop grid connections design that reduce installation time and cost.

• Develop and maintain key processes.

• Assume the role of technical responsible of the company (“Responsabile Tecnico ai sensi del DM 37/08”)


Experience and competencies

  • 5 years’ experience in Italy within the Grid connection space
  • Full conversant with the end-to-end TSO/DNO/ICP process for renewable connections.
  • Have conducted technical due diligence and risk assessment of the grid offers/agreements.
  • Have conducted design reviews of the HV/MV substation and design studies.
  • Good network of contacts across the TSO/DNO and ICP environment.
  • Established relationships with TSOs/DNOs.
  • Previous experience in the design and construction of HV/MV substations.
  • Experience with construction of grid connections for solar plants.
  • Ability to write reports and effectively communicate complex technical matters with clarity.
  • Strong knowledge of the entire connection process in Italy: from grid offer request to the entry into operation, through all the intermediate steps (grid design validation, planning consent validation, operation agreement etc.).
  • Strong technical knowledge of HV (36-380kV) and MV (1 – 35kV) connection work in Italy.
  • Strong knowledge of the requirement for grid code compliance, TSO/DNO connection procedure and administrative authorizations required for connection of renewable plants in the Italian market



Education, Qualifications and training

  • A degree in electrical power engineering or a mix of electrical/renewable energy engineering is mandatory
  • Chartered engineer preferable but not mandatory
  • Knowledge and experience of power systems, power systems studies and grid connection of renewable projects in Italy.
  • Have previously worked with TSOs/DNOs, grid consultancies or HV/MV contractors in Italy
