Overview
Chematek S.p.A. is seeking an experienced Global Logistics Manager to lead and develop our logistics function from our Milan headquarters. This is a senior operational and strategic role, managing a small but experienced team and overseeing the movement of petrochemicals, fine chemicals, lubricants and engineered equipment across nine countries via road, sea, rail and air. The successful candidate will bring strong organisational and communication skills, a strategic mindset, and a genuine enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced international environment. Familiarity with technology platforms and emerging AI tools for workflow optimisation is highly desirable.
The Company
Chematek is a technical, integrated and industrial services distributor focusing on the fields of fine chemicals; petrochemicals; engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) and lubricants. It operates across 9 well-woven geographical centres with an HQ in Northern Italy.
Chematek is privately owned and has been in existence for over 45 years. The company has a mission to develop markets and commercialise best-of-breed and differentiated products in its chosen fields, whilst maintaining excellent, dependable and reliable service and delivery to its wide range of global clients.
Role Description
Reporting to the Global Head of Strategy & Operations, the Global Logistics Manager will take full ownership of Chematek’s logistics operations worldwide. The role encompasses the coordination of shipments across multiple transport modalities — including road (ADR-classified and non-classified), sea freight, rail and air cargo — serving all four of Chematek’s business divisions: Fine & Specialty Chemicals, Petrochemicals & Refinery Services, Lubricants, and Engineering.
Role Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a team of 3+ logistics professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee the global movement of petrochemicals, fine chemicals, lubricants and engineered equipment via road, sea, rail and air freight.
- Possess a strong understanding on logistics dynamics from general packaging to bulk cargo and isotank transportation
- Ensure full compliance with ADR regulations and other dangerous goods transport requirements across all shipment classes and geographies.
- Negotiate and manage relationships with freight forwarders, shipping lines, hauliers and customs brokers to optimise cost, service levels and transit times.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with logistical infrastructure providers worldwide, including warehousing and storage facilities, to strengthen Chematek’s competitive position.
- Implement and continuously improve logistics workflows, leveraging technology platforms and emerging AI tools to increase efficiency, visibility and automation across the supply chain.
- Collaborate closely with commercial, procurement and operations teams across nine offices to align logistics planning with business priorities and client commitments.
- Monitor and report on logistics KPIs including on-time delivery, cost per shipment, carrier performance and inventory positioning.
- Manage logistics budgets and drive cost optimisation initiatives without compromising service quality.
- Travel internationally as required (approximately 15–25% of the time) to visit offices, key partners and logistics hubs.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience (7+ years) in a senior logistics management role within the chemical, petrochemical, industrial or manufacturing sectors.
- Strong knowledge of international freight operations across road, sea, rail and air, including dangerous goods (ADR/IMDG) compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop a team in a multicultural, multi-site environment.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken. Italian or other European languages are a strong advantage.
- Strong organisational and structuring skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to negotiate effectively with carriers, forwarders and logistics partners.
- Familiarity with logistics and supply chain technology platforms (TMS, WMS, ERP integration). Awareness of AI-driven tools and workflow automation is highly desirable.
- Strategic thinker with strong tactical execution skills — comfortable operating at both the operational and planning level.
- Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis (15–25% of the time).
- A genuine enthusiasm for working in a dynamic, international context and contributing to the growth of a privately-owned, international and entrepreneurial business.
