ETE serves as the platform for Encore’s Global Markets business (outside the Americas and Australia), supporting projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.
Role Description
Encore Thermoengineering (ETE) is seeking a General Manager to support the next phase of growth of our Italian operations. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who wants to build and scale an international engineering business, with a clear path to Managing Director and a meaningful role in shaping the next phase of growth. The position is full-time, on-site General Manager located in Milan, Italy.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on operational execution, scalability, and disciplined growth within an entrepreneurial, engineering-driven business.
The General Manager will work closely with the current Managing Director, who will remain actively involved in commercial leadership, banking relationships, and strategic direction. The transition to Managing Director responsibilities will be a collaborative process over time, with increasing responsibility as the General Manager develops into the role.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead day-to-day operations across engineering, procurement, and project execution
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards
- Implement structured project controls, KPIs, and reporting systems
Financial & Performance Management
- Support P&L performance, including revenue, gross margin, and cash flow
- Improve working capital management (AR, WIP, supplier terms)
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial discipline
Scaling the Business
- Help scale the business from approximately €3–4M to €10M+ revenue over the next 3 years
- Build scalable processes and organizational structure
- Develop second-line leadership and reduce key-person dependency
Commercial & Strategic Alignment
- Partner with sales leadership to align pipeline with execution capacity
- Participate in major bid reviews and contract decisions
- Support international project execution across global markets
Candidate Profile
Required
- 10–15+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing, or project-based businesses
- Proven experience in a leadership role (e.g., General Manager, Operations Director, Business Unit Leader)
- Exposure to P&L responsibility or strong financial accountability
- Experience in project-based or EPC-driven environments
- Fluent Italian and English
Preferred
- Experience scaling a €3–15M business
- Background in oil & gas, combustion, process equipment, or engineered systems
- Familiarity with international projects and contract structures
