About The Position
We are looking for a Functional Safety Specialist (Hardware) to join the Electronics Functional Safety Team located in Italy, France and Germany. This position is based at our office in Corbetta. As the Functional Safety Specialist (Hardware) at Marelli, you will be responsible for the safety‑related support and coaching to the project team and for the review of safety‑related work products against Functional Safety compliance. Here in particular we seek the hardware specialist for hardware design and test, production and field analysis.
Your Responsibilities Will Be
Support Project Safety Managers, Functional Safety Methodology Specialists and the Head of Functional Safety on technical aspects of safety‑related issues. Support platform designs, particularly on safe hardware design, before concrete offers or projects, and apply this know‑how to other designs. During offers, support and coach the system design in defining a safety concept and estimating components needing compliance with functional safety. Support and coach hardware designers in evaluating the functional safety impact of RFIs, RFQs and CRs. During development, support and coach hardware designers in executing functional safety activities and developing the product in compliance with functional safety (e.g., requirements, architectures, safety analyses). Review and ensure the compliance of work products and R&D processes with ISO 26262 requirements. For production, support and review safety‑relevant production documents (e.g., creation and application of safety‑relevant critical characteristics of the components used). For field analysis, support the definition and monitoring of field returns strategy for safety‑related issues. Support the Project Safety Manager in preparing the project team for functional safety audits and assessments. Contribute to the definition of indicators to measure Functional Safety team efficiency and effectiveness for your area of competence, aiming at continuous process improvement. Share opportunities for process improvement with the Functional Safety Methodology Specialist and the rest of the team.
What Qualifications You Will Bring
Degree in engineering or equivalent experience, ideally in electronics or a similar field. 5 to 10 years of experience in hardware automotive development. 3+ years of experience with safety‑relevant development. Demonstrated leadership.
Other Skills That We Would Welcome
Relevant parts of ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 SOTIF as a plus. Tools and methodologies for safety analysis (e.g., DFA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA). Development of embedded systems. Process development standards (e.g., IATF, ASPICE). Good written and spoken English (mandatory). Knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German, Portuguese, or French is an advantage. Experience working in multinational and cross‑cultural teams across EMEA, Asia, LatAm, and NAFTA. Negotiation skills to motivate others on safety requirements, primarily towards R&D and OEMs.
