Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Agents)

Location: Milan or Rome – Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)

BSQ Talent is partnering with a fast-growing AI scale-up that builds a platform to design, deploy and monitor AI agents for enterprise customers (voice, chat, email, back-office systems).

We’re helping them hire a Forward Deployed Engineer in Italy: a senior engineer who can work across systems and integrations, build AI-powered workflows and partner directly with customers to turn complex problems into production solutions.

What you’ll do

• Work closely with enterprise customers to understand their operational challenges, workflows and success criteria
• Translate open-ended business problems into clear technical designs and implementation plans
• Build AI agents and workflows on top of the client’s AI platform, integrating with real customer systems so agents can perform concrete tasks
• Design and implement integrations and data flows across APIs, internal services, CRMs, databases and back-office systems
• Own deployments end-to-end: reliability, performance, monitoring and continuous improvement based on real usage and metrics
• Test with real data, measure outcomes and iterate quickly on the solution
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ship high-quality, production-ready solutions
• Contribute to tools, documentation and best practices that make it easier to deliver and scale projects across customers

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering or similarly technical problem-solving roles
• Strong fundamentals in software design and systems thinking
• Proven experience working across systems, integrations and data flows (enterprise environments, complex APIs, multiple services)
• Solid backend engineering background (e.g. TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Python or similar modern stacks) and confidence working in production environments
• Comfortable working directly with customers, owning ambiguous problems and driving them to concrete solutions
• Clear communication skills and a strong ownership mindset
• Curiosity and real interest in building AI-powered systems that work in practice (LLMs, agents, RAG, tools, etc.); prior hands-on AI experience is a strong plus
• Fluent Italian and very good English (international environment)
• Used to working in fast-moving, customer-facing setups; startup/scale-up experience is a plus
