About the Role
As one of Ireland’s most progressive and people‑focused building consultancies, we are strengthening our building compliance team with an experienced Fire Engineer. ORS is a leading provider of assigned certifier, technical advisory, quality assurance and quality control services in Ireland.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial and mixed‑use developments nationwide. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects achieve compliance with Building Regulations and fire safety standards while supporting quality assurance throughout design, construction and project completion stages.
You will work closely with clients, design teams, contractors and specialist consultants, contributing technical expertise across both mechanical and electrical building services systems while supporting project certification and compliance processes.
Key Responsibilities
Review designs for compliance with the Building Regulations, fire safety standards and FSC compliance, report design non‑compliances and risks, and workshop with design team to develop suitable solutions for client requirements
Review fire safety strategies, fire engineering designs and compliance documentation
Review on‑site fire safety installations for compliance with Building Regulations and project specifications, undertaking benchmark inspections where required
Coordinate inspections and compliance activities throughout all project stages
Carry out site inspections to monitor compliance with fire safety requirements, Building Regulations and approved designs
Coordinate with design teams, contractors and specialist consultants to resolve fire safety and compliance issues
Review drawings, specifications, ancillary certificates and project documentation
Review technical submittals where required on projects
Support preparation and management of inspection plans and certification records
Review and collate quality documentation, handover records, witness testing and commissioning of M&E systems to verify operation and cause and effect and fire safety strategies
Monitor construction quality and ensure fire stopping, compartmentation and life‑safety systems are installed in accordance with specifications
Provide technical guidance relating to fire safety regulations, standards and best practice
Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships while delivering high‑quality consultancy services
Chair, participate and contribute in project meetings, with both internal and external stakeholders
Essential Requirements
Degree in Fire Engineering, Building Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Strong experience in fire engineering, building compliance or construction consultancy
Significant on‑site experience with a strong understanding of construction methods and fire safety installations
Excellent technical knowledge of Building Regulations, BCAR requirements and fire safety legislation
Experience reviewing fire strategies, technical drawings and construction documentation
Strong understanding of passive and active fire protection systems
Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage compliance processes across multiple projects
Proactive approach with strong attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence
Desirable Requirements
Chartered Engineer status or progression toward chartership
Experience carrying out the Assigned Certifier role on projects, including inspections and certification activities under BCAR
Experience carrying out technical advisory or quality assurance/quality control services on projects
Experience across commercial, residential, healthcare or industrial developments
Familiarity with fire modelling, evacuation analysis or performance‑based fire engineering approaches
Knowledge of commissioning, testing and certification processes for fire safety systems
Leadership or mentoring experience within project or compliance teams
