The Finance Director leads all Finance activities for Italy, ensuring robust financial governance, high‑quality IFRS reporting, and statutory compliance. The role acts as a strategic business partner to the Managing Director, supporting profitable growth across complex EPC/turnkey projects. Strong ownership of IFRS 15 revenue recognition, project profitability, cash discipline, and risk management is essential.

The client is a mid‑size Industrial EPC company managing multi‑disciplinary turnkey projects and operating through controlled branches. The organization delivers complex contracts with milestones, variations, and high technical execution demands. The environment is dynamic, international, and closely integrated with corporate finance structures.

Description

The ideal candidate will lead the Finance team and will be responsible for the following activities:

Financial Governance, Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure correct application of IFRS (with strong focus on IFRS 15) and Italian statutory accounting (Local GAAP), including reconciliations
  • Lead timely month‑end/quarter‑end closing, management reporting, budgeting and rolling forecasts with high data accuracy
  • Maintain strong internal controls, process integrity, and full readiness for internal and external audits

Revenue Recognition & EPC Project Finance

  • Own the end-to-end revenue recognition process for EPC/turnkey contracts (PoC, WIP, contract assets/liabilities, unbilled receivables, change orders, claims)
  • Oversee project economics: margin governance, EAC discipline, variance analysis, provisioning and early identification of onerous contracts
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Legal/Contracts, and Sales to validate progress, documentation and billing milestones

Performance Management & Financial Planning

  • Lead budgeting, rolling forecast and business planning, translating operational drivers into financial results
  • Provide KPI dashboards and performance commentary (project margin, cash, working capital, backlog economics, EBIT where applicable)
  • Support investment decisions, business cases and scenario analyses

Treasury, Working Capital & Tax

  • Manage treasury planning, banking relationships and project‑related financial instruments (guarantees, bonds, LCs)
  • Drive cash conversion improvements: milestone billing discipline, DSO reduction, working capital optimisation and accurate cash forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with Italian tax requirements, coordinating with tax advisors

Leadership & Stakeholders Management

  • Lead and develop the Finance/Controlling team, promoting accountability and continuous improvement
  • Act as a strong business partner to the Managing Director and project organisation, influencing decisions with financial insight
  • Communicate effectively with corporate Finance, auditors, international counterparts and JV partners

Profile

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Engineering Management; MBA, CPA or ACCA preferred
  • Big4 audit experience is a strong plus
  • 10-15 years of progressive Finance/Controlling experience with meaningful leadership responsibilities
  • Proven Finance leadership in EPC/engineering/turnkey environments with hands‑on ownership of IFRS 15 revenue recognition.
  • Strong command of IFRS and Italian statutory accounting, including reconciliations and compliance.
  • Hands‑on, operational mindset typical of lean mid‑sized organizations.
  • Track record in project margin governance, EAC discipline, provisioning, working capital and cash management.
  • Solid ERP exposure (SAP/Oracle/Dynamics or equivalent) and strong Excel skills; BI tools (Power BI) are a plus.
  • Experience supporting corporate governance and multi‑country stakeholders
  • Fluent professional English and Italian
