Get to Know Our Team Our Backend Engineering team builds the scalable, fault‑tolerant systems and APIs that power our global travel platform across pricing, inventory, customer data, bookings, payments and more. We operate high‑scale, mission‑critical services with frequent releases, using modern engineering practices in CI/CD, automated testing, resilience and observability.
Our engineers work on complex distributed systems using technologies such as Scala, Go, Kafka and Aerospike, while also exploring how Generative AI can accelerate engineering productivity, improve developer workflows and unlock new product innovation. This is an exciting opportunity to solve large‑scale engineering challenges and shape how AI is applied to the future of travel technology.
The Opportunity The Engineering Manager role at Agoda is one of the most significant and challenging roles at the company. The right candidate is both extremely hands‑on—technically excellent with solid engineering principles—and exhibits strong leadership and people‑development skills. We are looking for world‑class development managers to lead one or more of our engineering teams.
In this Role, you’ll get to:
Drive the end‑to‑end execution of AI‑focused product and platform initiatives, fostering engineering scalability, organizational alignment and high‑impact delivery.
Be hands‑on: write and review code, give expert‑level coaching and guidance to engineers.
Maintain a love of engineering and a passion for building elegant, scalable solutions; stay ahead of industry trends and shape system architecture.
Perform full‑stack engineering: have solid experience across infrastructure, client side, back‑end, performance, data and more.
Develop people: inspire teammates to reach their potential and bring A‑players into the business.
What you’ll Need to Succeed
Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (Java, Scala, C#).
Strong experience in systems architecture, especially in complex, scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
Proficient in lower‑level engineering (garbage collection, context switching, threading).
DevOps culture—agility, leanness, automation, CI/CD.
Good understanding of application security.
Passionate about technology and the Internet.
Must have worked in a successful agile development team.
Must have run engineering teams before with five or more direct reports.
Can operate autonomously: set KPIs, make decisions, and take ownership.
Practices data‑driven decision making.
It’s Great if you have
Proficiency in more than one programming language.
