Your Mission as Engineering Director

The Role

You will lead our technical organization through the next phase of growth. You'll own the engineering architecture and excellence across all product teams, the engineering practices that make everything reliable and scalable, and the entire engineering organization: people, hiring, delivery, and process — platform teams included. Strategic direction for our platform teams (AI & Data) is set by the CTO and Co-Founder; you'll own everything else.

You’ll scale the team from 30 to 60+ engineers, and ensure we maintain technical excellence while shipping fast. This is a hands‑on leadership role — you'll be deeply involved in architecture decisions, hiring, and building the systems that let us move quickly across multiple markets.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and scale the engineering organization, establishing team structures, processes, and culture that work now and at 200+ people

  • Own technical strategy and roadmap, balancing product velocity with platform stability and technical debt

  • Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver features that drive customer value and retention

  • Own performance reviews, career pathing, and growth plans for the engineering org

  • Build and mentor engineering leadership

  • Drive engineering excellence: code quality, testing practices, incident response, and deployment reliability

  • Architect systems for scale as we expand across Italy, Germany, Spain, and beyond

  • Recruit exceptional talent and create an environment where great engineers want to work

  • Partner closely with the CTO on organizational vs. technical decisions

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years leading engineering teams at high‑growth startups (ideally Series B through scale‑up)

  • Track record of scaling engineering organizations through rapid growth phases (3x‑5x team expansion)

  • Deep technical expertise in modern backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms

  • Strong hands‑on experience with AI/ML systems in production —you understand LLM orchestration, RAG architectures, and how to build reliable, low‑latency AI products at scale

  • Clear vision for how AI‑assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) are transforming software engineering —you’ve thought deeply about how these tools change team structures, code review practices, hiring profiles, and productivity metrics, and you’re ready to build an engineering org that leverages them effectively

  • Strong product instincts and ability to translate business goals into technical strategy

  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast‑moving environments

  • Fluent in Italian and English

Nice to Have

  • Experience in legal tech, fintech, or other regulated industries

  • Experience with international expansion and distributed teams

  • Familiarity with European data privacy requirements (GDPR)
