Energy & Construction Underwriting Team Leader

Location: Milan, Italy.

You will lead all key aspects of AXA XL Italy underwriting operations in the Energy and Construction business within the country, following regional and divisional guidelines. This includes portfolio profitability, account pricing, rate changes, renewal retention, marketing, new business production, staff and broker/client management.

Responsibilities

• Manage underwriting activity for an assigned portfolio.
• Develop portfolios to maximize profitability by making decisions and recommendations aligned with AXA strategy and business plan.
• Lead and develop a team of underwriters, providing technical training and coaching on a daily and formal basis.
• Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics.
• Support business planning and forecasting, monitoring financial exposure and premium income to keep within limits.
• Maintain awareness of all claims advice and support settlement of claims.
• Identify and develop opportunities for profitable business with new and existing customers.
• Build relationships with stakeholders to ensure business needs are met and improve visibility with brokers, clients, risk managers, and account managers.
• Collaborate closely with the Distribution Team to provide effective and efficient service.
• Report to the Property, Energy & Construction Underwriting Manager, Italy.

Qualifications

• Proven experience underwriting Energy and/or Construction business within commercial insurance. Property underwriting experience is a plus.
• Ability to tailor risk solutions and analyze complex risks.
• Strategic view and proactive market engagement with awareness of local and international trends.
• Ability to communicate and work in Spanish and English.
• Leadership and people‑management skills; role model for team commitment and engagement, inspiring success and thriving talent within AXA culture.
• Excellent commercial, communication and influencing skills, partnering with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders at all levels.
• Financial acumen, including monitoring premiums, loss ratios, and portfolio performance.
• Ability to support business planning, forecasting, and cycle management.
• Adaptability to a changing environment and navigation of a matrix organization.
