The EIB, the European Union's bank, is recruiting for its Operations Directorate (OPS) - Equity, Growth Capital and Project Finance Department (EGPF) - Project Finance West Division (4-PF WEST) in Luxembourg.
Duration: 5 months (fixed). Start date: 1st March 2026. Possible extension up to 6 months if required by University.
Eligibility: Applications will be considered only from nationals of the Member States of the European Union and citizens of EU candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine). Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the traineeship will not be considered. Please limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications – only the first three will be retained.
Objective
The Project Finance West Division is responsible for originating, structuring and executing Project Finance operations in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and other European markets. The internship provides a hands‑on learning experience by supporting front‑office staff on significant infrastructure and energy investments, and offers insight into how the EIB uses private sector instruments to achieve public policy goals.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing project and financial documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Preparing detailed financial analyses and contributing to the review of financial models and credit assessments.
- Assisting in the preparation of internal approval documents.
- Contributing to sector studies in energy, infrastructure and telecommunications, including emerging sub‑sectors such as Green H2, critical raw materials, affordable housing and data centres.
Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or university degree in economics, finance, engineering (with a finance background).
- Good knowledge of financial analysis, corporate finance, business planning.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and/or energy sectors and project finance is an advantage.
- General understanding of main financing products (loans, bonds, subsidies, etc.).
- Ability to work autonomously, respect deadlines and deliver quality work.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools, in particular Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent written and spoken English and/or French, ideally complemented by fluency in Italian and/or Spanish.
