This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment. The European Union's bank is seeking to recruit for its Inspectorate General Directorate (IG) - Evaluation Division (EV) - Strategy and Outreach Unit (S&O) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026). Possible extension up to 6 months if required by University.

Eligibility: Only applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens from countries that have been officially granted candidate status to join the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) can be considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship: The trainee will support the Evaluation Division in the Inspectorate General (IG/EV) of the EIB in carrying out desk‑research and other evaluative activities (as needed) in the framework of IG/EV’s on‑going and upcoming evaluations for 2026. Initial tasks include delivering the background research paper(s) for the evaluations that will be carried out during the traineeship period. The trainee may also contribute to other tasks related to those evaluations (e.g. support in the portfolio review of EIB operations, undertake surveys or attend interviews).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare policy and literature reviews on the theme(s) targeted by one or more of IG/EV’s upcoming evaluations or studies.
  • Contribute to other components of a thematic evaluation or study (e.g., portfolio review, data collection via surveys or interviews, data analysis).
  • Support the logistics of evaluation processes (e.g., organization of interaction with stakeholders, of data collection and analysis).
  • Support IG/EV’s outreach activities (including knowledge sharing and gathering, both within and outside the EIB).

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in Economics, Finance, Social Sciences, Political Sciences or Engineering.
  • Familiarity with evaluation (e.g., specialized courses in evaluation) would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience with using a variety of social science research methods would be an advantage.
  • Facility in drafting clear and concise texts in English would be a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
