EIB Trainee - Group Risk & Compliance Directorate - Climate-related and Environmental Risks Unit - based in Luxembourg

Join European Investment Bank (EIB) as a trainee in the Group Risk & Compliance Directorate (GR&C-RM) – Credit & Climate Risk Department (CCRD) – Climate-related and Environmental Risks Unit (CERU). This role is based at the EIB headquarters in Luxembourg and requires regular office presence.

The traineeship lasts 5 months, starting on 1 March 2026, with a possible extension up to 6 months if required by the University. Candidates must be nationals of the European Union, or citizens of countries that have been granted official candidate status to join the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine). Erasmus+ programmes overlapping the traineeship duration are not considered.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the current Excel-based XVA estimation tool, in Excel or preferred programming language.
  • Prepare and improve reports on financial risks (interest rate, liquidity, funding).
  • Support updates to financial risk policies and internal documentation.
  • Assist in testing and documenting ALM models and methodologies.
  • Analyze financial data to support accurate and insightful reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency in risk analysis.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or a university degree, preferably in IT engineering, mathematics, business administration, economics, finance or environmental science.
  • Understanding of climate-related and environmental risks, particularly in the context of financial institutions and credit risk.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with Python, VBA, and database tools such as Access or SAS.
  • Experience or interest in working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including data extraction tasks.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and/or French skills; knowledge of other EU languages is an advantage.
