This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment.
The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate (GLO) - International Partners Department (IP) - Financial Inclusion Division (FIN INC) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE .
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026). With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University. Please note that the traineeship programme aims to attract applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.
Objective of the traineeship: To support EIB’s financial sector lending activities by providing timely and accurate counterpart credit and market analysis in the context of new and existing operations with financial intermediaries across International Partners’ core markets.
Responsibilities
- Support counterpart credit risk analysis
- Assist financial sector analysis
- Support review of regulatory regimes and supervisory standards
- Assist in the analysis of (financial) market and sector trends
- Perform peer group analysis
- Assist in the preparation of loan appraisal documentation
- Provide ad‑hoc support in preparation of conferences, missions, and meetings
Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or university degree, preferably in Economics, Finance, Business, or Engineering.
- A first experience in (investment) banking, central banking, or management consulting would be considered a distinct advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Excel and Power Point).
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be considered an asset.
