DSP / Telecommunications Engineer – Satellite Communications (MATLAB Simulation) – Bari, Apulia – €32k+ DOE + Equity

Location: Bari, Apulia, Italy (Hybrid working available)

Salary: Minimum RAL €32,000 + Stock Option Plan

Overview

A fast-growing space technology company is seeking a DSP / Telecommunications Engineer to support the development of next-generation satellite communication systems.

Operating at the intersection of satellite communications, signal processing, and real-time data systems, the company delivers technology used in natural disaster detection, emergency

management, space monitoring, and defence applications.

This role is focused on DSP algorithm design, system-level simulation, and validation, with a strong emphasis on MATLAB/Simulink modelling. You’ll work closely with FPGA and embedded software teams to take algorithms from concept through to hardware-ready implementation.

This is a high-impact position within a technically strong, multidisciplinary team, where your work directly influences real-world satellite communication performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • DSP Algorithm Development & Simulation
  • Design, simulate, and optimise DSP algorithms for satellite communication systems using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Develop algorithms for filtering, modulation/demodulation, synchronization, channel estimation, and equalisation
  • Run system-level simulations to evaluate performance, robustness, and trade-offs against requirements

Statistical Signal Processing

  • Develop and validate statistical estimation algorithms including:
  • Direction of Arrival (DOA)
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) estimation
  • Power Spectral Density (PSD) and spectrum estimation
  • Analyse algorithm performance under varying noise, interference, and channel conditions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with FPGA engineers to translate DSP algorithms into hardware-ready specifications
  • Collaborate with embedded software teams on algorithm integration and interface definitions
  • Support architectural decisions through modelling and simulation results

System Validation & Documentation

  • Perform verification and validation activities through simulation and automated test scripts
  • Produce clear technical documentation, simulation reports, and algorithm descriptions
  • Support continuous improvement of models and testing frameworks

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink for DSP and communication system simulation
  • Solid understanding of digital communication principles (modulation schemes, coding, synchronization, filtering)
  • Strong background in statistical signal processing and parameter estimation
  • Experience validating and optimising algorithms against system-level requirements
  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience using Python for simulation automation or testing
  • Exposure to satellite or RF communication systems
  • Basic understanding of FPGA or RTL constraints to support hardware implementation
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
  • Experience with end-to-end system-level simulations for communication platforms

Why Join

  • High-impact work: Your algorithms will directly support real-world satellite applications with global impact
  • Technical ownership: You’ll work on core technology, not peripheral tasks
  • Fast professional growth: Join a technically ambitious startup environment backed by major innovation programmes
  • Competitive package: Above-market salary for the region plus a stock option plan
  • Work-life balance: Hybrid working model with flexible hours
