Director, Software Development, Prime Video Living Room Organization
Job ID: | Amazon Development Centre (London) Limited
We’re inventing a customer‑centric future that is significantly better than traditional streaming, pay‑per‑view and cable TV. Customers can stream video content such as movies, TV shows, live sports, local programming and hundreds of add‑on channels—including Apple TV+ and HBO max—anytime, anywhere, on their terms, without being locked into long‑term contracts or one‑size‑fits‑all bundles.
Prime Video operates on a global scale and is a critical part of Amazon’s flywheel. Our client apps let customers in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide stream Prime Video content, and we develop and operate services and clients that support some of the largest events, such as the English Premier League. Prime Video also drives sign‑ups, conversions and renewals for Amazon’s Prime membership program.
As the Director of Software Development for the Prime Video Living Room organization, you’ll lead the engineering teams that develop and own the Prime Video Living Room app that is installed on 1½+ billion living‑room devices and used by hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.
In this role, you’ll partner closely with Product and UX to refine and execute the vision for Prime Video’s living‑room strategy and define long‑term plans that span multiple years. You’ll provide hands‑on engineering guidance by diving deeply across all aspects of your organization to help your teams be successful and invent on behalf of our customers.
You will also act as the overall site leader for the broader Prime Video Experience organization in LHR, which includes hundreds of individuals based in our Shoreditch, UK location. You should naturally inspire others, build strong teams, and genuinely care about people while having the backbone to make tough decisions and stay true to Amazon’s mission.
If you are passionate about film, sport or TV and you’re looking for a role where you can maximize your impact as a world‑class technical leader, then come help us achieve our mission of building the most customer‑centric, cinematic and visually‑rich living‑room experience.
Key Job Responsibilities

- Define and review metrics and anecdotes that indicate whether the customer experience, business performance and operational effectiveness of your systems are improving or decreasing over time.
- Dive deeply across all areas of your organization to identify blind spots and then drive improvements that address root causes.
- Use customer focus and standards you set for your organization to consistently improve the Prime Video mobile app customer experience in ways our customers care about.
- Inspire others and build strong teams while balancing empathy with decisive action in service of Amazon’s mission.
- Empower and grow other technical leaders by developing them, creating guardrails for independent decision‑making, giving ownership through delegation, providing stretch opportunities, and encouraging fast movement with urgency without burning out teams.
Basic Qualifications

- Educational background in engineering or another quantitative subject area.
