Director of Facilities & Projects
is a key member of our team, responsible for the strategic leadership of all engineering, maintenance, facilities management, technical services, and capital projects at
Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort . Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role ensures the hotel's physical assets, engineering infrastructure, life safety systems, and guest facilities are maintained to the highest luxury hospitality standards while preserving one of Venice's most iconic historic landmarks. The successful candidate will lead both the operational Engineering function and the planning and execution of all CAPEX projects, renovations, and infrastructure improvements. Following the evolution of the Engineering Department, this position will progressively assume the operational responsibilities currently performed by the Maintenance Manager, creating a single point of accountability for engineering operations, facilities management, and project delivery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, and proven experience managing luxury hotel engineering operations while successfully delivering complex refurbishment and capital projects. Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership of the Engineering and Facilities Department. Lead all engineering, maintenance, utilities, and technical services across the hotel. Develop and manage preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance programmes. Ensure full compliance with all statutory, fire life safety, environmental, and health & safety regulations. Lead the planning and execution of all CAPEX projects, renovations, refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrades. Manage engineering budgets, maintenance expenditure, utilities, procurement, and service contracts. Drive sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency, and responsible asset management. Lead contractor selection, tendering, project supervision, and quality assurance. Protect and preserve the historic integrity of the property while implementing modern engineering solutions. Partner closely with all operational departments to ensure facilities consistently support an exceptional guest experience. Develop, mentor, and inspire the Engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Act as the primary engineering representative with Ownership, Asset Management, consultants, contractors, and local authorities. Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Engineering, Building Services, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related technical discipline. Minimum 8-10 years' experience in engineering, facilities management, or project management, including at least three years in a senior leadership role. Proven experience managing luxury hotels or comparable high-end hospitality assets. Demonstrated success delivering capital projects within an operating hotel environment. Strong knowledge of MEP systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety systems, statutory compliance, and building maintenance. Excellent financial management, budgeting, procurement, and contractor management skills. Experience with heritage or historic buildings is highly desirable. Fluency in English is required; Italian is highly preferred.
