Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads the Infection Prevention team by communicating with staff, developing their skills, and building consensus for programs and goals that support the organization.
- Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention.
- Implements hospital infection prevention goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards; manages department budget, salaries, and resources.
- Oversees infection surveillance and risk assessments, ensuring timely identification and mitigation of infection risks.
- Investigates infections, clusters, and exposures to identify sources and implement risk reduction strategies.
- Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital and system leadership, as well as regulatory agencies.
- Manages infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, hand hygiene, and equipment management.
- Ensures adequate staffing and compliance with regulations; participates in accreditation reviews.
- Builds relationships across departments to optimize patient care and compliance.
- Partners with Human Resources to promote vaccination and exposure interventions; manages records and information systems.
- Performs other related duties as required, all considered essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or related field required.
- Current RN license in New York State preferred.
- Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) required, with specialized certifications as needed.
- 8-12 years of relevant experience required.
- 7+ years of leadership or management experience required.
Note: A sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 may be available to eligible candidates.
