Key Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues, overseeing the operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facility issues within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with the Facility Manager to set team culture.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and support projects to increase current facility efficiency.
  • Work outside normal business hours for routine maintenance and respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
  • Coordinate with IT managers and other business leaders to manage capacity, optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
  • Establish building performance benchmarks and conduct analyses, preparing reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
  • Utilize basic administrative tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for day‑to‑day tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment OR 8+ years of technical (military/trade school) training and/or experience with relevant data center facilities equipment.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age 18 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering field or mechanical/electrical trade.
  • Operating engineering licenses such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
  • Stationary Engineering or Building Engineering license.
  • Electrical or mechanical Journeyman license.
  • CFC license.
  • NFPA 70E certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proven self‑starter.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast‑paced environment.

The base pay for this position ranges from $83,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
