Database Administrator (DBA)

Position Summary

Italia Gas e Luce is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator with extensive experience managing enterprise-level databases. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of collaborating across IT and business teams to support mission‑critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management

  • Install, configure, and upgrade database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Monitor performance and optimize queries, indexes, and configurations.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.

Security & Compliance

  • Manage user roles, permissions, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and data protection regulations, specifically GDPR.
  • Conduct regular audits and vulnerability assessments to safeguard sensitive information.

Performance & Reliability

  • Perform capacity planning and forecast future database needs.
  • Maintain high availability through clustering, replication, and failover solutions.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, diagnose and resolve database errors in real-time to ensure continuous operation.

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with developers and analysts to optimize database schema design and queries.
  • Provide technical support for application teams and end-users.
  • Document processes, policies, and procedures for database operations.

Innovation & Automation

  • Automate routine tasks such as monitoring, backups, and deployments.
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies and recommend improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Expertise in RDBMS platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
  • Strong knowledge of database architecture, replication, clustering, high availability, data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL (extract, transform, load) processes.
  • Excellent analytical, complex problem-solving, and communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Knowledge of operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and UNIX
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI / CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and BI tools.
  • Understanding of data governance and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities

This opportinuty is open to both candidates looking for an employee contract and those available for a temporary freelance / outcoursing collaboration.
