The Data Governance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring that GEB’s data is managed as a strategic asset, supporting regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and informed decision-making. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining data governance frameworks, including business glossaries, data catalogues, and lineage tracking, while ensuring alignment with internal GEB business experts and stakeholders, Group policies and local entity requirements. The Specialist collaborates with business units, Operations, IT, and compliance and risk teams to promote data transparency, quality, and accountability across the organization.
Main accountabilities (non-exhaustive list):
- Further implement and maintain the Data Governance Principles across all production data, ensuring data is accessible, secure, and managed as a strategic asset
- Define and maintain the Business Glossary, ensuring consistent terminology and taxonomy across Business Units and Legal Entities
- Identify and classify Relevant Outputs (RO) and Significant Data (SD) in line with regulatory, strategic, and operational requirements
- Support the documentation of conditions for manual data input and updates, ensuring traceability and auditability
- Maintain and govern the Data Catalog, including metadata definitions, formats, and attributes
- Develop and manage Data Lineage processes to track data flow across ICT systems, from generation to usage
- Collaborate with IT to identify and monitor Key ICT Systems, especially those critical for business continuity and RO generation
- Ensure data confidentiality classification according to Group taxonomy and lifecycle protection standards
- Support compliance with Personal Data Protection and Integrated Data Quality System Group Policies
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions to promote data governance awareness and adoption and embed data governance thinking and ownership across whole GEB organization
- Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks reasonably aligned with the scope of this role, as required by evolving business needs

Desirable skills & competencies:
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and lifecycle management
- Experience with metadata management, data cataloguing, and lineage tools
- Demonstrated technical affinity for data (architecture) and tooling, with proven ability to efficiently categorize, manage, and map data across complex environments
- Ability to translate business needs into structured data governance processes
- Excellent analytical and documentation skills, with attention to detail and auditability
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and data protection standards
- Proactive mindset, high level of accountability, and ability to work independently
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment with evolving priorities
Desirable qualifications & background:
- Master’s degree in data management, data governance, information systems, business, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles within an international environment
- Experience with enterprise data platforms, data warehouses, and business intelligence systems
- Knowledge of employee benefits, reinsurance, or financial services data is a plus
- Certification in data governance or data management frameworks (e.g., DCAM, DAMA, CDMP) is desirable
- Willingness to travel occasionally as required by business needs
- Fluent in English, any other language would be considered an asset
