Overview

Data Governance Consultant – Milano. In KPMG Advisory, we help clients transform their business models, improve and digitize processes, manage risks, and support extraordinary finance operations. The Lighthouse Milano team focuses on turning data governance into practical, operational solutions, with ownership, quality, traceability, and accountability embedded across systems, catalogs, and decision processes. The role involves active delivery of metadata, integration with systems, and participation in the design and implementation of data governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the definition of governance roles, processes, procedures, and metrics.
  • Model and manage metadata (technical, descriptive, functional, tracking), including:
    • Data ownership & stewardship: mapping responsibilities, defining accountability, supporting federation
    • Data quality & classification: defining rules, metrics, validation and monitoring workflows
    • Policy enforcement: formalizing and activating policies for data access, use, and protection
  • Configure catalogs and metadata delivery systems using enterprise and open-source tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Irion, Purview, Datahub), and integrate them with custom logic when necessary.
  • Recognize that data governance is central to the role; ontology (semantic modeling, conceptual classification, SKOS/OWL) is a differentiating capability useful in interoperability, knowledge graphs, and regulated domains.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of active experience in data governance, metadata management, or data quality projects.
  • Ability to work on frameworks and guidelines and translate them into active processes and technical components (catalogs, policies, interfaces).
  • Knowledge of reference models (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, EDM Council).
  • Interest in conceptual modeling (taxonomies, glossaries, business dictionaries).
  • Basic knowledge of data product management and data mesh principles.
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures and modern data management platforms.
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, bash, PowerShell) useful for integrating catalogs, policy engines, and delivery tools.
  • Optional: semantics, RDF/OWL, and query/serialization languages such as SPARQL and Turtle.
  • Strong motivation to learn and grow in a rapidly transforming sub-industry at the intersection of technology, governance, and business.
  • In project scenarios, you will work with colleagues to implement the governance framework, adapt it to the client ecosystem, define deliverables (RACI, swimlane, personas), set up and populate catalogs, integrate metadata quality features, and define logical and semantic models of data and metadata.
