Data Center Operations Manager, Data Center Ops (DCO) — Job ID: | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

This position involves leading teams in hardware and network diagnostics, followed by physical repair and participation in an on-call rotation. The role requires the ability to work independently and manage teams effectively. Strong prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and quick reaction times are critical. In addition to data center, hardware, and network repair knowledge, the candidate will create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level projects, and resolve complex problems within the Data Center space. The team operates 24/7, and this role will work a night shift schedule that is subject to adjustment to meet operational demands.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data center technicians and operators
  • Manage the performance of a diverse team(s) of data center operation professionals across different locations
  • Develop career paths for employees and update in internal tools
  • Recruit and train data technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Ensure effective day-to-day data center operations including queue management, 24/7 shift arrangement, and hardware logistics
  • Rapidly learn or act as the subject matter expert across all aspects of data center operations
  • Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are measured and met
  • Inspire and guide improvements in team processes, technology innovation, and automation
  • Manage large-scale events (outages) and act as the call leader
  • Improve workflows and throughput for data center operations
  • Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and SLAs
  • Maintain the on-call schedule, coordinating absences and vacations
  • Focus on quality and quantity of services and continuously improve customer experience

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and repairing
  • 2+ years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data cabling/computer facilities maintenance
  • Experience in computer architecture or general hardware troubleshooting/debugging

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $158,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
