AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. As a Data Center Manager in Amazon, you will help manage the world’s largest cloud computing infrastructure. We encounter interesting, challenging, and complex problems daily, and as a technical manager at Amazon you can innovate to solve these issues and drive Operations Excellence in all areas of your role.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and develop teams of engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring the highest levels of performance.
- Refine and develop processes to optimize operational excellence in every area of your role.
- Drive performance levels to enable the pace at which we build and operate our Data Centers.
- Bring experience in Data Centers, either building or managing (or both), with exposure to developing strong relationships with internal teams and external vendors.
- Assure excellent coordination with internal teams and management groups.
- Maintain existing Data Centers.
- Help build and bring online new Data Centers.
- Continuously improve all processes and procedures, embracing the mindset that there is always room for improvement.
- Assist and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors.
- Create and maintain metrics on all aspects of our Data Centers and use those metrics to drive positive changes.
- Assist in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.
A day in the life
Your day-to-day at ADSIPL will include (but is not limited to):
- Managing and developing teams of engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring the highest levels of performance.
- Maintaining existing co-located and in-house Data Centres.
- Helping build and bring online new Data Centres.
- Continuously improving all our processes and procedures, believing there is nothing we cannot improve.
- Assisting and managing relationships with external vendors and contractors.
- Liaising with internal teams and management groups.
- Ensuring we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centres.
- Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centres and utilizing those metrics to drive positive changes.
- Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.
About the team
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of firewalls, vulnerabilities or other security concepts
- Experience operating a mission-critical team or product
- 3+ years building & managing strong, successful technical teams in a similar culture with ITIL management experience
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects and ability to consistently deliver results despite competing priorities
- Engineering degree or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in managing DC, IT Operations or similar roles with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in program or project management
- Experience in capacity planning, operations planning, business analysis or similar
- Bachelors of Computers or equivalent and/or MBA (Operations, IT)
- Experience in Kaizen/Lean/SixSigma is preferable
- Change Management & Fault Management
