AWS is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Senior Manager to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. The Senior Manager is one of our most senior management roles in the data center environment. In this role you will lead a large organization, managing department heads who own data center facility infrastructure, including the operational availability of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The pace, scale, and growth of Amazon’s data center platform will challenge you. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Key Job Responsibilities

  • Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including facilities managers, chief engineering managers, and engineering operations technicians.
  • Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build‑outs, new colocation build‑outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the entire mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure to facilitate daily operation.
  • Operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon data centers to include preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
  • Vendor management of colocation data center services providers, if required, to meet or exceed contracted performance SLA’s.
  • Oversight of a preventative maintenance system and adherence to schedules, evaluation, and performance of infrastructure supporting the data center operations.
  • Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific maintenance tasks balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
  • Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity.
  • Experience managing large teams across multiple locations and languages, or experience as an acting operations manager.
  • Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • 5+ years of analytical, quantitative, communication, and presentation experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant work in a data center or other critical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with continuous improvement methods such as Kaizen, Lean, DMAIC, etc.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
  • Experience in one or more IT infrastructure domains (storage, compute, networking, security, software development, systems administration, database engineering or administration, machine learning, cloud infrastructure, big data, DevOps, or other IT infrastructure domain).

Compensation

The base pay for this position ranges from $164,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $313,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
